Job Summary:
The Research Data Analyst for the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) contract provides analytic and data infrastructure support for the VSD project team, which includes project managers, scientist team and physicians. The Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) is a project led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and includes a network of health care systems that collaborate to produce large-scale aggregate data needed to conduct vaccine safety surveillance and epidemiological studies of vaccines. The position will be responsible for building and maintaining the VSD infrastructure within Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States (KPMAS), fulfilling any VSD based data requests, working with and running distributed code requests, and completing any ancillary request needed by the project teams and/or by the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI). In addition to fulfilling data requests, this position will play a key role in the design and implementation of research projects; designing and maintaining internal and external databases; running analytical reports and providing statistics; working with the project team to validate, troubleshoot and interpret results; preparing and assisting with manuscripts for publication; actively participate with the project team in discussions to identify key areas of improvement and set priorities. The Research Data Analyst II reports to the Director of Research Analytics for the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI).
This position is a 100% grant-funded contract position and is contingent on federal grant funding. Should federal grant funding be eliminated for any given reason, this position may be eliminated.
Responsibilities:


  • Serve as the primary data analyst for the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) contract
  • Work with the team biostatistician to scope, conduct, review, and complete the analyses required for VSD projects
  • Ensure all data requirements and deadlines are met
  • Provide analytic and data infrastructure support for the VSD project team and assist in development of data solutions
  • Provide consultation in the areas of analytics including health care data, biostatistics, EPIC based electronic medical records
  • Partner with members of the clinical, technical, analytical, and operational staff to improve data quality and resolve data issues
  • Extract, manipulate and merge large, intricate databases to create and define analytical datasets
  • Oversee all phases of SAS/SQL/analytical programming including data management, macro creation, quality control, automation and data reporting
  • Identify and resolve analytic problems using knowledge, data expertise, interactive problem solving and troubleshooting techniques
  • Contribute to methodology, design and development of databases
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of data
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the project team and be able to explain data intricacies in an understandable manner
  • Present and review data results with the project team
  • Provide input for the design and implementation of research-based studies
  • Provide insight to scientists on the assumptions and complexities related to data used in their studies to help guide the analysis and discussion of their results
  • Understand and apply principals of research and ethics when conducting analysis on research studies
  • Abide by all federal, state and KP regulations when conducting research analysis. Specifically, ensure patient data security/confidentiality and maintain compliance in acceptable use of data.
  • Maintain data integrity
  • Ensure confidentiality of patients records and proprietary information

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree is required; Master's degree in Public Health, biostatistics, or related field preferred
    • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience designing, developing, implementing, and managing research databases using SQL and SAS
    • Strong analytic, troubleshooting, problem-solving and quality assurance skills
    • Strong project management and organizational skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; prior experience working with physicians or health care leaders is strongly desired
    • Knowledge of statistical and research methodology
    • Ability to communicate complex analysis results
    • Ability to translate data into meaningful information in report format or presentation
    • Work collaboratively as part of a research team
    • Previous experience with multi-site collaborative data projects preferred
