Since our foundation in 1996, OriGene has extended biological products from genomics to proteomics, covering basic research in the diagnostic & therapeutic field. Here, our protein team in Rockville, Maryland, is looking for a highly motivated protein engineer scientist to join us on our exciting journey of innovation, discovering new diagnostic and therapeutic protein products. We are looking for a highly motivated and inventive scientist to join our protein team at OriGene. The selected candidate will work within a fast-paced, interactive, and innovative research group and develop protein products to meet scientific requirements for the global research community. This role is primarily tasked with designing and producing protein products for our clients but also has responsibility in assay development and potentially cross-functional responsibility in support of technique transfer and regulatory submissions. The OriGene protein team focuses on recombinant protein production, protein engineering, antigen design, functional assays, and validation. This role is challenging, requires versatility, and affords many opportunities for professional growth. Responsibilities and Job Duties - Contribute to rational protein engineering projects; analyze protein structures and properties to design antigens for antibody development. - Perform recombinant protein expressions and purifications and physical characterization. - Maintain strong understanding of cutting-edge science and technology of development in the biomedical industry. - Engage in scientific discussion with collaborators or clients to evaluate current products or ongoing projects and launch new products. - Develop and optimize SOPs and validation protocols; provide technical assistance to and train research associates on site. - Communicate with customers to fully understand their requirements on customized projects. - Coordinate with sales, marketing, and tech support teams to promote products, deliver orders, and resolve issues of our products. - Collaborate with antibody, assay, and molecular biology R&D teams as required to advance the OriGene product portfolio. - Prepare technical reports and data presentations for internal and external communications. - Perform routine maintenance on scientific equipment.

Qualifications Education & Experience - The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 3-5 years of work-related experience (industry experience in protein structure analysis and purification preferred), be knowledgeable in the basics of proteomics, immunology, and cell biology, and have at minimum a master's degree plus 5-8 years of experience or Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or related life science field. - Expertise in protein expression/purification from heterologous expression hosts like bacteria, insects, yeast, and mammalian cell lines. - Experience with liquid chromatographic systems and various matrices (e.g. SEC, IEX, HIC). - Experience with protein formulation and physical characterization (e.g. analytical SEC, BLI, DSF). - Experience with structural modeling softwares (e.g. PyMOL, Schr--dinger, MOE, Rosetta). - Demonstrated success with structural analyses for rational protein engineering. - Experience developing protein/antibody functional assays or cell-based protein activity assays would be a plus. - Hands-on experience with basic cell/molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, mutagenesis, aseptic tissue culture, western blotting, and flow cytometry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Ability to analyze and interpret data independently and devise creative scientific approaches. - Highly organized and collaborative individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and handle multiple concurrent projects. - Strong written and oral communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and data analysis software (e.g. Prism, SigmaPlot, Photoshop).
