Position Overview:

The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability. The primary focus of this client-facing role is to support and deliver excellent service to our clients. The Benefits Generalist is expected to exercise a defined set of functions daily, exercising autonomy in matters of familiarity or of low complexity. The ability to manage work volume in an intelligent and focused manner is central to success in this role. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.

Essential Duties:

Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
Assists with new-hire orientations.
Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
Assists with the open enrollment process.
Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs Excel and Word. Beginning to Intermediate skill level in Microsoft office program PowerPoint.
Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
Associates degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study.
Two years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
Proven experience in customer service environment.
Previous experience in benefits administration.
Experience working in an HR Outsourcing/PEO environment is a plus.
Previous experience in health and welfare benefits training and/or process documentation is a plus.

Additional Skills:

Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven atmosphere.
Exceptional time management, data entry, verbal, and written communication skills.
