Job DescriptionMid-Level VMWare Administrator - NCCoE (National
Cybersecurity Center of Excellence)The VMware System Administrator
will work with the resident VMware SME and architect to support a
dynamic multi-tenant virtual environment including hybrid and
on-prem cloud infrastructure.The VMware System Admin will have a
proven track record of administering a VMware environment. This
individual will be a VMware System Admin on the IT Ops team and
will work closely with the IT Ops SME responsible for conceiving
and delivering a wide variety of VMware services. Deep technical
familiarity with VMware products, end user support and
documentation are a must. The position is telework flexible;
candidates will need to work onsite 2 days a week and can work
remotely 3 days a week. Roles and responsibilities include:
- Work closely with resident VMware SME and architect to support
multi-tenant virtual environment.
- Supports the building of a systems administration and
operations support capability for the new vCD based solutions.
- Apply system hardening, STIG settings and resolve
vulnerabilities found by Nessus scans.
- Design, document and publish standard operating procedures
(SOPs) for the build and sustainment of the VMware infrastructure
in coordination with SME.
- Support daily environment operations including patch levels,
troubleshooting support and service checks.
- Share knowledge with existing System Administrators through
documentation, presentations, deep dive technical sessions,
etc.
- Assist in the production and execution of test plan procedures
for upgrades and installation of new virtualization products.
- Assist in automating tasks for the operations team such as
patching, infrastructure configuration changes and reporting.
- Work closely with vendors to identify and resolve product bugs
and initiate feature requests.
- Recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and
solutions of problems.
- Identify and remediate deviation from reference
architecture.
- Supports resolution actions for Tier 2/3 incident tickets.
- Other tasks as assigned.Required Qualifications:
- Experience with VMware vSphere and similar component
services
- Extensive infrastructure knowledge and hands-on experience with
datacenters & infrastructure
- 3+ years of experience deploying and maintaining data center
Infrastructure
- 5+ years of hardware experience to include compute, network, &
storage
- 3+ years of VMware System Administration experience
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP
- Experience developing documentation for operational
support.
- A self-starter that drives solutions to implementationDesired
Qualifications:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification
- Knowledge of and experience with vRealize suite and component
services such as vMotion, HA, DRS, vDS, vCenter, storage
vMotion
- Experience implementing and operating VMware NSX
- Linux and Windows OS experience
- Backup and replication experience.
