Position -The Scientist II / Research Manager I Mass Spectroscopist
is a hands-on laboratory position in the protein chemistry group
within the Antibody Engineering department. The primary
responsibilities of the position are characterizing monoclonal and
bispecific antibodies and their targets and maintaining the mass
spectrometer. This individual will interact with multiple cross
functional teams and support the drug discovery and development of
MacroGenics' pipeline of preclinical and clinical
programs.Responsibilities and Job Duties
- Support the research discovery pipeline by helping to ensure
quality deliverables to upstream and downstream groups running
assays for the selection of lead drug molecules.
- Confirm the identities of multi-chain protein drug candidates
prior to investing valuable resources running biological assays and
in vivo studies.
- Identify proteolysis products to assist the protein
purification scientists with in-process purification support.
- Make recommendations to project teams regarding the feasibility
of developing drug molecules by characterizing carbohydrates and
analyzing tryptic peptides for post-translational modifications
including oxidation products, deamidation, and aspartic acid
isomerization.
- Conduct epitope mapping of antigen-antibody complexes using
mass spectrometry for differentiating antibody molecules for
selecting lead molecules.
- Work closely with the mass spectroscopy group in Development to
ensure a smooth transition of molecules from Research to
Development -Minimum QualificationsScientist II:Education &
Experience
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, or equivalent scientific
field of study
- Minimum of two years biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
experience
- Experience working with antibodies
- Prior experience with the maintenance of mass spec
instrumentEducation & Experience
- MS or BS in biochemistry, biophysics, or equivalent scientific
field of study.
- Minimum of 7 years (MS) or 10 years (BS) biotechnology or
pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Experience working with antibodies
- Prior experience with the maintenance of mass spec instrument
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong background in protein mass spectroscopy
- Experience with Waters Xevo G2-S QTOF and UNIFI software
- Strong knowledge of Antibodies and bispecific drug
molecules
- Must be flexible when there are unplanned requests for mass
spectrometry support for troubleshooting protein purification
processes
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies in mass
spectrometry
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in
cross-functional teams
- Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills -Supervisory
