Together, we serve approximately 800,000 Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia at 34 area medical centers, plus several community hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.Job Summary:We are seeking a Director of Finance to be responsible for the proper, accurate and timely reporting of financial and operational reporting. Responsibilities include managing the technical and analytical teams, leading key financial systems implementation and upgrades, and the development and continued refinement of analysis and reporting. Responsible for recruiting, training, coaching, developing and evaluating staff. Responsible for leading system project initiatives and process improvements across business units. Responsible for communicating financial information to senior management.Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper and timely reporting of financial transactions via financial reporting systems. Provide leadership and direction for the department in accordance with the overall strategic direction. Serve as the content expert for the area of responsibility, providing assistance and advice. Communicate information effectively, translating financial data into meaningful information that supports business decision-making. Apply understanding of operational and financial performance to anticipate and meet the needs of clients. Manage monthly financial reporting process, including communication of trends, risks and opportunities to management
  • Coordinate reviews and approve financial statement variance analysis for, and presentation to, management. Prepare reports and deliver recommendations to senior management routinely. Define and frame complex issues and develop processes for decision-making. Identify and communicate opportunities for change to improve performance. Facilitate and coordinate solutions to problems of difficult scope and complexity with other departments and business units. Coordinate the research of technical financial solutions for complex business issues. Formulate strategy at the operational level to gain continuous performance improvement. Assess operational impacts of new initiatives and develop recommendations
  • Foster the ongoing development and professional satisfaction of finance team through training, work assignments, increased responsibility and mentoring. Continuously develop technical capabilities of the department, present routine system enhancements for evaluation
  • Ensure business continuity through departmental training and cross training. Promote a positive work environment, emphasizing respect for individuals, high standards of quality, innovation, team work and collaboration among business units. Partner with local and regional leadership to find new ways to enhance financial products and services. Develope, monitor and strengthen internal controls
  • Evaluate, develop and implement system and procedural changes to streamline processes and increase productivity. Participate in various projects and national or regional initiatives. Lead departmental projects and initiatives. Responsible for up-to-date department procedures and manuals
  • Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis.   • In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendorsQualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in business, finance or technology. Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Administration or related field a plus. CPA/CMA/CIA desired
    • Significant experience (7+ years) in financial planning, analysis, and project management
    • Strong knowledge of financial reporting systems, financial planning processes, and the development of analytical tools and measures
    • Experience managing within regional structure(s)
    • Recognized as a leader in financial issues and a subject matter expert for business advice
    • Experience in the implementation and handling of complex financial issues
    • Experience in developing and implementing solutions to complex financial issues
    • Demonstrated experience in hiring, managing and mentoring high caliber staff in a complex organization
    • Experience in developing and monitoring financial metrics and evaluation tools
    • Expert spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word) and database (Access) skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills
