The mission of the Foundation is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our database and investment initiatives; and we provide extensive educational resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. People of color, women, LGBTQ+, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.Position Summary: The Associate Director, Federal Advocacy is responsible for expanding and implementing the Foundation's federal advocacy strategy. They will proactively engage with members of the U.S. Congress, the Administration, and coalitions to advance medical research on IBD as well as patient access to care. In addition, the Associate Director will engage across Foundation teams to assess the access to care barriers experienced by the IBD community, and to ensure the Foundation's agenda serves patients and caregivers of diverse disease experience, and diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. To implement these responsibilities, the Associate Director will manage contract counsel, lead and participate in coalitions, and collaborate with the Foundation's Director of Advocacy, and the Executive VP of Education, Support, & Advocacy. This is a remote position and candidates must reside in or around Washington, DC. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:Lead Foundation staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders to build upon the Foundation's vision and strategy around federal advocacy to improve patient access to care and increase IBD medical research appropriations.Develop and oversee the delivery of metrics for federal advocacy identified by the strategic plan.Work with colleagues, volunteers, consultants, and partners to: Implement legislative and policy campaigns, such as passing the Safe Step Act.Lead the Foundation's response to requests for comments from the Administration when relevant. Train staff and volunteers on federal priorities and how to be an advocate, with the Grassroots Advocacy Manager.Place media stories and op-eds to support federal campaigns, with the Marketing Department.Actively monitor, analyze, and address federal legislation and policies that would impact the IBD community.Submit grants to ensure financial support for advocacy efforts.Maintain the Foundation's leadership and participation in relevant coalitions.Organize Day on the Hill, an annual lobby day that includes 100+ volunteers, and an annual congressional briefing held during Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Week.Support the Grassroots Advocacy Manager in tracking and communicating the Foundation's activities to our volunteers, chapters, and other stakeholders.Create multi-channel education and communication tools to support advocacy initiatives.Position Competencies:Advanced Stakeholder EngagementLobbyingCoalition LeadershipCommunicationProject ManagementCustomer/Client FocusResults DrivenTask ExecutionGuide and Direct StaffResponsivenessTeamwork and CollaborationTime ManagementQualifications: BA/BS degree in Public Policy, Political Science or Public Health, or equivalent experience required.Master's degree preferred in Public Policy, Public Health, or other relevant degree.6+ years of experience working on federal advocacy.Experience with health-related government programs.Demonstrated volunteer management and leadership experience.Public policy experience including policy statement development, research, and communications.Self-motivated, results oriented, proactive, dynamic leader with strong organizational skills and strategic thinking.An effective written and verbal communicator.Must have computer literacy in constituent management software including VoterVoice, SalesForce, website data management, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).Must be able to drive and travel.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
