Job Description:
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association requires all

Foundation (ASHFoundation), you will join a dynamic,

Description The Executive Director is the chief administrative
officer of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation
(ASHFoundation). The ASHFoundation is governed by a Board of
Trustees, and the Executive Director is directly responsible to
this Board. The Executive Director is responsible for management of
the ASHFoundation--------s national headquarters operations and
shall carry out the following major responsibilities:
Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy Central strategist for
ASHFoundation activities with the goal of guiding the organization
to performance excellence, innovation and growth.
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation Board of Trustees, the Executive
Director provides leadership in communicating the
ASHFoundation--------s vision, mission, and strategy. The Executive
Director also serves as the staff leadership liaison to the
ASHFoundation--------s affiliated association, the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Fundraising The Executive Director role has a significant role in
growing fundraising and development efforts for the organization.
The Executive Director will have an emphasis on national
philanthropy:
maximizing charitable giving, expanding the donor base, developing
programs, working with the Board of Trustees to cultivate, steward
and retain donors and representing the ASHFoundation
externally.
Fiscal The Executive Director serves as the chief financial officer
with oversight for all financial transactions of the ASHFoundation.
The Executive Director works with the Financial Review Committee of
the ASHFoundation, the ASHFoundation Board of Trustees, and the
ASHFoundation staff in developing a budget and assuring that the
ASHFoundation operates within an approved annual budget. The
Executive Director is the lead liaison with the ASHA business
operations and accounting unit. The Executive Director establishes
and implements an effective investment and risk management policy
for the ASHFoundation; manages charitable endowments; assures an
annual audit is conducted; and prepares a long-range financial plan
ensuring the financial health of the ASHFoundation. The Executive
Director serves as the sole contracting office for the
ASHFoundation, and as the Board of Trustees-------- liaison with
legal and fiscal entities.
Administrative The Executive Director executes policies and
objectives of the ASHFoundation and has responsibility for the
organization and management of national office activities.
The Executive Director has sole operational responsibility for the
ASHFoundation--------s employees, actively developing, mentoring,
and managing staff; for programs established in accordance with
policies established by the Board of Trustees; for fundraising and
related marketing initiatives; and for day-to-day operations and
activities. The Executive Director facilitates the work of the
ASHFoundation--------s board, committees, task forces and working
groups, to further engage, motivate, and expand participation in
fundraising, networking and related activities. The Executive
Director is responsible for maintaining records of meetings of the
ASHFoundation Board of Trustees and other related records.
Public Representation and Liaison To complement the role of the
ASHFoundation President as official spokesperson for the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, the Executive Director promotes
the image of the ASHFoundation to external groups and communicates
the volunteer leaders-------- vision in a way that represents
enthusiasm and motivation toward appropriate goals. External groups
include, but are not limited to, other foundation and association
executives, related professional organizations, corporate leaders,
federal and state agencies, and media. The Executive Director
builds alliances with other organizations in the interest of
furthering progress toward the ASHFoundation--------s charitable
