Move United, an Affiliate of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and a national leader in sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities, seeks a Director of People & Culture for a full time, salaried position located in Rockville, Maryland. This position will elevate, direct and lead the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs of Move United. Move United is an expanding, thriving charity dedicated to the life-changing power of sports for youth and adults with disabilities and focused on inclusion. The candidate will join a fast-paced leadership team at a dynamic nonprofit with the opportunity to make an extraordinary difference in achieving the organization---s Vision 2028. Move United uses the power of sport to push what is possible for people with disabilities, confronting ignorance, fueling conversation, and inciting action that leads us to a world where everyone is included. We believe that sports make us more---more determined, more powerful, more ourselves. We also see the power sports has to change the world, pushing people further and bringing people closer. Sports is a tool to shift the narrative from disabled to this abled. To this end, Move United holds the vision that every person, regardless of ability, has an equal opportunity to participate in sports and recreation in their community.-- As we enter the next phase in Vision 2028, we have refocused our intent to grow diversity and inclusion within the disability community we serve. Move United seeks a motivated Director of People & Culture ready to lead the internal and external DEI programs of Move United including human resources, the scope of which includes training, human resource policy, communications and relationships, and member programming and grants. This position is a senior level director role with interdepartmental relationships and hands on programmatic responsibilities, and it reports directly to the Executive Director. Founded in 1956, Move United provides adaptive sports opportunities through 190+ community-based member organizations serving more than 100,000 youth and adults with disabilities in 43 states. Move United offers a highly collaborative work environment, a commitment to professional development and an important mission. Responsibilities include: Human resources: The knowledge base and working environment of Move United---s twenty-one person staff is an important pillar to our organizational success. Human resources focuses on developing long-term cultural proficiencies for our team as well as the day-to-day administrative aspects. --- Develop internal trainings to increase awareness and inclusive action of Move United staff through ongoing monthly workshops, guest speakers and trainings --- Expand and manage the national office---s intern program to support the development of future generations of diverse adaptive sports professionals --- Review, update and maintain employee policies to ensure positive workplace environment --- Annually evaluate and secure competitive employee benefits plans that promotes equity --- Create and recommend guidelines, networks and processes to elevate recruitment, hiring, and retention of diverse professionals at all levels to ensure that Move United represents a diverse array of people, ideas, perspectives and experiences --- Carry out the day-to-day human resource elements of the organization DEI and Programs: At the heart of what we do at Move United are the programs that serve the adaptive sports community at its roots. This position will work hand in hand with key team leaders across the organization to support high impact initiatives that drive inclusive and equitable outcomes. --- Envision and create youth outreach programs to engage new and diverse participants, pilot to launch in Y1 in partnership with programs and competitions teams --- Develop and support a DEI education and training program for our members in partnership with the training and education team --- Create and execute a mentorship program to support and promote diverse leadership among Move United member organizations --- Review Move United---s grant program and make recommendations to ensure it is equitable, and establish a new grant program for membership organizations who serve diverse communities in order to promote more accessible programming nationally --- Direct and lead the Move United Diversity Equity & Inclusion Leadership Team, comprised of internal advocates and external advisors who help guide and shape Move United future policies, processes and programs DEI and Communications: Move United raises awareness within a unique internal audience of members, stakeholders and partners as well as with the American public. Elevating diversity and equity with our community and creating effective partnerships is critical to that success. --- Utilize Move United platforms to represent, uplift, and amplify people from diverse communities --- from influencers and partners to content and advertising --- Identify and nourish new national partnerships to expand the reach of Move United---s voice --- Represent Move United---s DEI vision and values in a spokesperson role DEI and Measurement: Move United is metrics driven. We know that sports changes lives.-- How we research, measure and present our outcomes gathers allies in our efforts to leave no one on the sidelines. --- Steward and curate demographic census information for individual members and organizational leaders --- Set goals and strategies to drive diversity of membership, with regular progress reports --- Create and execute research projects to measure the impact of inclusive programming on its participants Position Requirements: Work Experience: --- At least five years of relevant and practical DEI experience --- Efficient multi-tasking and good attention to detail --- At least 3 years of full-time experience in human resources --- Excellent communication skills, outstanding customer service experience --- Proven ability developing a budget and managing resources --- Legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, restrictions or need for work sponsorship) in the U.S. --- Must be willing to meet organizational Sport Protection requirements Personal Attributes: --- Hands on approach to incite and deliver change --- Collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with the ability to network and build partnerships --- Leads cooperatively and exercises good judgment --- Strong initiative with a creative solution driven approach --- Detail oriented implementation --- Effective at multi-tasking --- Strong written, confident speaking and interpersonal communication skills --- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines --- Ability to travel (within the United States) --- Willingness to challenge the status quo --- As the focus of Move United---s mission is to provide sport services to people with disabilities, we recognize that the lived experiences of someone who identifies as having a disability will provide an advantageous perspective to this position Education: --- Completion of a Bachelor---s degree --- Familiarity with Constant Contact and CRM---s such as Salesforce --- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) Compensation: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) plus a very strong benefits package that include medical, dental, a 403(b) (employer match) plan, group life and long-term disability coverage, paid vacation and sick days.
