Job Description:

Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC. Westat is seeking a Research Data Manager to plan and manage data processing operations for large survey research projects from the planning stage through data delivery to Westat's clients. Job Responsibilities: --- Write operational specifications, manage requirements, schedule, and quality control through to implementation. --- Develop and provide expertise for each study on programmed survey instruments, the collected data and metadata for a variety of studies and the optimal application of a variety of methods for post-collection processing of survey data. --- Participate in project leadership team to plan survey data operations through all project phases. --- Write technical specifications for systems, programs, data files and analytic indicators. --- Provide data stewardship and data curation services. --- Manage software testing, data review and coding operations. --- Prepare, document, and perform quality control checks of file sets delivered to Westat's clients. Basic Qualifications: --- A bachelor's degree, preferably in the social sciences. --- 5 or more years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: --- A Master's degree. --- Basic knowledge of SQL and SAS. --- A demonstrated aptitude for data operations and the use of programming for data manipulation and investigation. --- Strong technical writing skills. --- Experience in development of end user documentation. To be successful in this role, you must possess an analytic mind, excellent oral and written communication, strong programming aptitude or experience, detail orientation, a strong interest in social science research, experience managing large databases, and a highly organized approach to work.
