AIR's Equity Initiative is seeking a Senior Program Officer to provide intellectual and technical leadership for an AIR-driven and AIR-funded agenda that will generate and use research evidence to improve educational and economic opportunity in communities. The ideal candidate will identify and cultivate relationships with external partners to create opportunities for collaboration and advance AIR's Mission, with appreciation for the challenges faced by communities marginalized or segregated by place or race.
Candidates hired for the position might initially start working remotely but will ultimately have the option to work remotely or from one of AIR's office locations in the following metro areas: DC, Chicago, Boston, Oakland, Austin (TX).

The responsibilities for the position include:Define and refine programmatic agendas, particularly in the public safety, policing, and justice fields

  • Develop and refine requests for proposals
  • Identify and engage with potential grantees for funding
  • Represent company brand in industry conferences, meetings and workshops
  • Manage and monitor grants and prepare funding reports
  • Provide guidance and maintain frequent communications with program partners
  • Analyze and troubleshoot program challenges
  • Develop best practices to improve overall program performance
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for programs
  • Identify and contact new program partners for business expansion
  • Plan and execute program activities in timely and accurate manner
  • Conduct program reviews and prepare reports for management
  • Design meeting agendas, organize and lead meetings, moderate expert panels and distribute meeting minutes

    Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

    • Ph.D., 5+ years of experience or Masters and 7+ years of experience as a leader in public/community safety, policing, or related fields, including research experience
    • At least 2 years' experience in philanthropy, funding or leadership roles
    • Professional network and established relationships with other high-impact leaders in the justice, public/community safety, policing or related fields


      • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects and teams, strong project management and staff supervision skills required.
      • Keen ability to synthesize findings and communicate and use lessons to improve grant funding programs and the broader field
      • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a fluid team environment that is evolving programmatic work and partnerships
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting to and facilitating various-sized groups with a broad spectrum of perspectives and entry points.
      • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a project team while prioritizing multiple objectives to meet project deadlines.

        AIR requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a legally required exemption from AIR, as a condition of employment.
